AIIMS to be setup in Jalandhar

The Centre today decided to set up an All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Punjab. This decision was taken at a meeting between Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Punjab Chief Minister here.
The proposed AIIMS will be set up near Jalandhar. The state government will provide 200 acres of land free of cost to the Centre for the project.

The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMSes) are a group of autonomous public medical colleges of higher education.Currently there are 7 AIIMS in India with one in Delhi being the oldest that was setup in 1956. The other 6 were setup in 2012 and are located in Bhopal, Bhubhneshwar, Jodhpur. Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh. There are two more AIIMS under construction in Raeganj and Raebareli. 

Final location has not been identified. But there are speculations that it will be setup on Jalandhar Kapurthala Road.
