It has been just a week that all Indian sports lovers were celebrating the spectacular victories in Cricket. Little did we knew that the celebrations will be dampened this week by a new low in Indian national sports.
8 time Olymics Gold winner Indian Hocket team failed to qualify for Olympics to be held in Beijing this year. It has never happened in the history of Olympics since 1928. India lost to Great Britain in the final of the Olympic qualifiers 2-0 in Santiago on Sunday night (early Monday morning IST). Score might have been worse.
Who is to blame. players ? team officials or Indian fans. Though players are to blame to some extent and viewers and media also but the biggest culprit most will agree is the way IHF is being run. If reports are to be believed, players are treated as clerks in offices and are snubbed by officials.
I think it is about time that IHF president should take moral responsibility and next president should be some distinguished Hockey player. The first name that comes to mind to hold such a position is our own Jalandhari "Pargat Singh". Thought there is no miracle cure but it has to start from somewhere.
